RELOCATION
Year after year, visitors to the Banner Elk NC area love
the region so much, they move to the area or purchase a
vacation home here. We've put together the following

Climate
Banner Elk is one of the few places that you can
experience all four seasons. Known for its cool climate
in the summer months, Banner Elk is a popular second
home residence for many. In the warmer months, Banner
Elk receives cooler temperatures than can be found off
the mountain, so many jump at the chance to enjoy the
wonderful weather. In the winter months, Banner Elk
becomes a winter wonderland with a fair amount of
snowfall blanketing the area. During this time, the ski
season is in full swing and temperatures remain steady
near or below freezing during the day. Fall is a great
season in Banner Elk, as the leaves are changing and the
mountain sides are bursting with bright colors.
Community
Banner Elk is part of the area located in Western North
Carolina known as the High Country. Known for its
mountain attractions, excellent weather, and beautiful
landscapes, Banner Elk is a wonderful place to live.
Located just a short drive away from Boone, Blowing
Rock, Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain, the town has a
great deal to offer. With a friendly, small-town
atmosphere, it's a great place to relax and enjoy
yourself.
Schools
The schools in Banner Elk are part of Avery County
schools and provide an outstanding education for
the children in the area. There are six elementary
schools, two middle schools and one high school that
serve the county. Lees-McRae College is a four year,
private liberal arts school and has called Banner Elk
home since 1900. With a beautiful campus and one of a
kind education, Lees-McRae is a special part of the
Banner Elk community.
Employment
The biggest industry in the area is tourism, and a great
deal of Banner Elk’s economy is based on this industry.
There are several mountain attractions in the area that
provide employment to area residents, as well as many
golf courses. Most of the NC ski resorts are located
within 10 minutes of Banner Elk, and these resorts
provide seasonal employment to the local residents.
Government
The town of Banner Elk is governed by the town council,
which strives to promote the town and maintain it as a
small, historical village full of diverse and
interesting places.
Healthcare
The newly constructed Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial
Hospital has just moved to a new location with many new
facilities. In 2000, Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial
Hospital and Crossnore Memorial Hospital merged to form
a new facility that is located in Linville. Also, the
Sloop Medical Office Plaza is the home of several
doctors' offices and medical facilities. |
