In light of the surging cases of COVID-19, the Board has decided to minimize crowd events for the holiday season. As a result, the Chamber is hosting only the Annual Christmas Tree Festival and the Letters to Santa Mailbox at the Chamber Visitor Center this year. Learn more about the Chamber's Small Town Christmas. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to returning to the full slate of festive holiday events next year!
From the Town of Banner Elk, host of the Banner Elk's annual Halloween Trunk or Treat: "The Town has made the difficult decision not to have a Halloween event sponsored by the Town. There are a number of considerations that were taken into account and ultimately not holding the event was deemed the appropriate thing to do. The Town and the Tourism Development Authority will be providing treat bags to the kids at Banner Elk Elementary and will have bags at Town Hall on Friday, October 30th for those who do not attend school in person or are home schooled."
Newland and Beech Mountain are also holding Halloween events on Friday, October 30th and Apple Hill Farm has mini trick-or-treat farm tours all weekend. Find more events here. Wishing you could race your Woolly Worm this year even though the Festival is a no-go? Stop by the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce with your woolly bear caterpillar and try out the mini-track. Better yet, bring a friend and a second caterpillar along and have a real race!
The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce has decided to cancel the first three Thursday night concerts (event dates: June 25, July 2, and July 9). We hope that the remainder of the concert season will go on as scheduled. However, the decision to proceed with the remaining concerts has not yet been made. Like everyone else, we are waiting to see how the reopening of Avery County evolves. It is virtually impossible to maintain social distancing at our current concert location (Tate-Evans Park) and accommodate the expected number of concert spectators that we typically have at our Thursday night concerts. The Chamber wants to be a responsible participant in the reopening of Avery County and will follow reopening guidelines.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the Easter event for this year has been canceled.
